Hi. I’m Jake, a reporter and writer based in New York City. I cover law enforcement and other topics for The Associated Press. I also sometimes write for The New Yorker.
Before joining the AP, I worked at Gothamist and WNYC, where I wrote stories and made radio about nearly every facet of life in New York City. My work has also appeared in New York magazine, The Village Voice, The Nation, Complex, The Awl and elsewhere.
I’ll be spending the 2026-2027 academic year as a Nieman fellow at Harvard, studying the shifting nature of mass movements and government repression.
When I’m not reporting, I enjoy pickup basketball, surfing at Rockaway Beach and talking to strangers.
